Ducted Heating

Service, Maintenance & Repairs

How Does Ducted Heating Work?

A ducted heating system consists of three main components — the heater, ductwork system, and wall control. The heater draws air from your home through a central return air vent, where it is warmed before being distributed through a network of ducts to outlets in each room. The wall control, typically located in a central area such as the lounge room, allows you to adjust and maintain your desired comfort level with ease.

When your heater is properly maintained, it provides consistent, efficient warmth throughout your home. However, without regular servicing, dust and debris can build up in the filters and ductwork, restricting airflow and reducing heating performance. A clogged filter or faulty ignition can also cause your system to blow cold air or fail to heat properly.

Professional Ducted Heater Service

Why Regular Cleaning & Servicing Matters

Routine professional servicing ensures every component functions as it should — from the ignition and pilot light to the thermostat and duct connections. Our technicians inspect, clean, and test your system, common issues they often identify include:

  • Rooms take ages to heat due to restricted airflow caused by dirty or blocked filters
  • Ignition or pilot light faults that can prevent heating altogether
  • Loose wiring or tripped safety switches from overworked systems
  • Damaged or leaking ductwork that reduces warm air distribution
  • Unusual noises or odours, which may indicate mechanical or electrical faults

If you notice your heater making unusual sounds, emitting a burning smell, or not distributing air evenly, it’s important to turn it off and have it professionally inspected. Attempting repairs yourself — especially on gas or electrical components — can be dangerous.

What Makes a Regular Heater Service Worth It?

Regular servicing of your ducted heater is essential for maintaining performance, safety, and efficiency. Over time, dust, debris, and general wear can affect how well your system operates — which is why routine maintenance by a qualified technician makes such a difference.

Here are the key benefits of getting your ducted heater serviced regularly:

Save Money on Running Costs - By Improving efficiency. A clean, well-maintained system runs more efficiently, using less energy to heat your home and helping reduce your power bills.

Enhanced Safety – Regular carbon monoxide testing and system checks ensure your heater operates safely and reduces the risk of gas leaks or other hazards.

Longer Lifespan of Your Unit – Preventative maintenance helps avoid major breakdowns and extends the life of your heater, protecting your investment.

Better Air Quality – Cleaning filters and ductwork removes dust, allergens, and debris, providing cleaner, healthier air for your home.

Consistent Comfort – Regular servicing helps your system maintain even heat distribution throughout your home, keeping every room comfortable.

Reduced Repair Costs – Early detection of issues prevents costly repairs and unexpected breakdowns during peak winter months.

Keeping up with regular servicing ensures your heater performs at its best — safely, efficiently, and reliably — year after year.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • There’s a gas smell coming from the heater

Potentially a dangerous problem that requires immediate attention. It is worth remembering some heater faults can create carbon monoxide gas that can escape into the atmosphere and cannot be detected by smell.

  • Heater is making a loud noise

Could be an issue with the fan or injectors. A service will diagnose and rectify the problem.

  • Pilot light is out / or won’t light

One of the most common problems with the older style ducted heaters. It can be due to the injectors requiring a standard service as recommended by manufacturers every 2 years.

  • Unit has a burning smell

This indicates the fan may not be operating. A standard service call is required to diagnose and resolve this issue.

  • There’s no airflow

This indicates either an electronic issue or a ducting problem. This fault can be diagnosed quite easily.

  • Heater has minimal airflow

Most likely a ducting issue but can also indicate an issue with the fan.

  • Heater is blowing cold air

Usually a gas or pilot light related issue. This will require an experienced service technician to diagnose and locate the fault.

  • Unit tripping the power

Could be a potential short in the electronics or a fault with an electrical component. This can be diagnosed and repaired with a service call.

  • Thermostat isn’t working

This can be a problem with the wiring, circuit board or the thermostat itself. It is quite easy to fix as our service technicians carry a range of thermostats on board.

  • Thermostat is blank

Likely to be a faulty cable to the thermostat, a power issue or a circuit board problem. This requires a service call to rectify.

We Handle All Brivis Heating Error Codes

Brivis Ducted Heating Error Codes

What Does the Error Codes Mean?

At Gastek, we frequently receive service calls for a range of common Brivis ducted heating error codes. Our experienced technicians can quickly diagnose and repair these issues to get your system running safely and efficiently again.

Fan-related errors: 30, 60 & 65
What does it mean? These codes usually indicate a problem with the fan motor, airflow, or speed sensors.

Gas-related errors: 50, 55, 56 & 71
What does it mean? These typically point to gas supply, ignition, or burner issues that require prompt professional attention.

Overheating errors: 35, 40, 41 & 42
What does it mean? These errors often mean the system is running too hot — caused by restricted airflow, blocked filters, or faulty sensors.

🛠 The Service Spanner Icon Has Appeared on the Controller

When your heater reaches a set number of operating hours, a spanner symbol will flash once per second on the Brivis Networker controller. This is a service reminder, not necessarily a fault. The spanner may also appear after a recent service, as the internal clock cannot be reset automatically.

To clear the icon on Brivis StarPro SP and BX5 models:

  1. Turn the system off.
  2. Press the ‘Fn’ button, then press button ‘1’.
  3. The word ‘RESET’ will appear on the LCD screen next to button ‘4’.
  4. Press button ‘4’ to reset your heater.

Tip: Each button must be pressed quickly. Don’t press and hold them during the sequence.
